Studio Bowe is a one-woman, sustainable, independent jewellery brand. Everything is designed and created by founder Bertie, who is a fashion stylist at ITV, runs the popular Instagram account @mothershoppers, and is a Mum of 2.

Pronounced b-oh, the name Studio Bowe is a play on founder Bertie’s surname Bowen.

It all began during Lockdown 1.0 when I made myself a necklace. I loved how a colourful piece of jewellery could lift an outfit with minimal effort. Remember, we were all basically wearing loungewear at that point. Getting dressed almost felt pointless with nowhere to go which was not great for my mood.

I suffer from anxiety and depression and Lockdown was the perfect storm to really magnify that. Making jewellery gave me a creative outlet, an easy way to style my comfy clothes and make me feel good. Also, physically making the pieces gave me something to do with my anxious hands whilst keeping my mind calm.

I shared the necklace on Instagram and got an amazing response! My brand was born.

Mental health and the environment is at the core of Studio Bowe. My jewellery really helps lift people's mood – they love the smiley faces and bright colours.

I use vintage and preloved beads in all my products except the smiley bead, which is handmade exclusively for me by a local maker. To avoid waste I make to order and use leftover beads to create DIY jewellery kits for kids.

All my packing is made from recycled materials and is recyclable or compostable.

The best bit about my job is sourcing the beautiful vintage beads and growing a community on Instagram where we can talk openly about our mental health.
